Texas Sky: Kiln Formed Glass Vessel Sink Basin
Artist: Gail Stouffer
Created: 2007

This vessel sink basin is a study in contradictions. Each aspect of its presence is a reminder of the conflict in its identity. It is an item of common, daily function, yet, it is executed with unexpected design intentions. The surface is smooth, yet the pattern evokes the courseness of rough hewn wood plank. Meant to be a repository for calm, cool waters, its colors evoke the hot and burning Texas sky. This vessel, hidden in an ordinary place of respite, seems familiar in its shape, obvious in its function, and meant to be humble in its presence, is at the same time a focal point, an alien to its enviroment.
