Instructor: Barbara Becker Simon
Join us for a fun 3-day workshop with Barbara Becker Simon. Barbara is a world famous, career metalsmith, specializing in all metal clay types. Barbara has become known for her ground-breaking techniques including; metal clay with hollow form beads, stone inclusions, sculpting, kiln formed glass, glass bead making, carving, and more!
Jewelry that makes a statement has been a part of our adornment for thousands of years. As long as we've worn jewelry, we've used it as a means to communicate our thoughts, hopes, dreams, position, and place in society. Archeologists and anthropologists study the jewelry we wear and use it to decipher personal and cultural details of ancient peoples and civilizations. What would they discover about you?
Using glass cabochons with words, initials, symbols, numbers or
other characters as surface decoration, students will create a pendant that
communicates their point of view. We will begin by creating the glass cabochons, and then build our metal clay setting around it. The configuration of the pendant can take any form or shape. Barbara will bring a variety of molds that the students may want to use including wings, flowers, leaves, and more. The sky's the limit on what you can create!
Do not miss this great hybrid approach to glass and metals!
